Introduction

There are various reasons to prune landscape plants.  Some are pruned to maintain a desirable size or shape.  Others are pruned to help maintain the health and vigor of the plant.  Sometimes, young plants are pruned to encourage good structure for future growth.  No matter the reason for pruning, there are proper techniques that must be used, and used and the correct time.  Pruning at the wrong time of year can result in misshapened plants, reduced flowering, or plants that are more easily damaged by insects, diseases, or weather conditions.  Pruning requirements vary for every plant, but there are some general guidelines that will help you keep you prune your plants correctly.
